20th Anniversary of MISUMI USA, INC.
Empowering engineers with configurable components, today and into the future

Schaumburg, IL-MISUMI USA, Inc., a subsidiary of the Japan-based Misumi Corporation, announces the celebration of a momentous landmark, its 20th Anniversary in America. In 1988, MISUMI USA was established to supply mechanical components for factory automation, as well as press die and plastic mold components, cutting tools and gauges. Throughout its 20-year history, MISUMI USA has enjoyed a powerful behind-the-scenes presence in industry, supporting the U.S. machine building industry, and has never ceased its mission of continuous improvement into the future. Over the recent years, the configurable component generator and unique online ordering system on the company's website have revolutionized product, equipment and machine building for many American industries, including assembly machine building, packaging, semiconductor production, automotive, appliance, medical, consumer electronics and more.

Starting the "MISUMI QCT Model" in North America

"Our key advantage is to provide the components that customers need with higher quality (Q), lower cost (C) and shorter delivery times (T)," explains Masanori Suzuki, president of MISUMI USA, Inc. "MISUMI USA's roots actually date back to 1988, when we introduced a range of unique standardized components manufactured to metric standards," he noted.

The first English language catalog

In 1991, the first English language catalog, titled "Face: Tools for Factory Use" was published in North America. The company then expanded its line of catalogs to Mechanical Standard Components for Factory Automation (2002), Standard Components for Press Dies (2002), Standard Components for Plastic Mold (2003), and Inch Mechanical Components for Assembly Automation (2004).

Pursuing integrated sales and manufacturing structure

Since the parent company's integration with Suruga Seiki in 2005, the Misumi Group has steadily expanded the highly promising market overseas. MISUMI USA and Suruga USA in Addison, Illinois have accelerated global deployment of their manufacturing and sales structure to better serve the growing customer base. Suruga USA was established in 1998 and strengthens back-end initiatives, such as their 5C re-engineering (encompassing value, time, information, strategy and mindset) concepts.

To further provide customers in North America with quality service and short delivery times, MISUMI USA, Inc. has been developing a local supplier network. In 2004, it established the QCT logistic center near Chicago's O'Hare airport as the local major distribution center for its products.

"Business development over the last 20 years has been quite an exciting process for MISUMI," according to Mr. Suzuki. "Many innovations and inspiring customer related moments have made the company what it is today, for instance, 99.95% On-Time delivery rating with many products available to ship within 3 days, and the majority of our products shipping within 6 days. Our configurable components offer the reliability, price and lead time of stocked components with the design flexibility of custom components. This has really been the key to MISUMI success, along with our people and our service commitment."
