As the misaligned workpiece approaches the gate, it is halted, caught at a set of brackets, and centered before allowing to be passed through.

    • Conditional value: workpiece weight: F1 = 10N, part pushed/pulled by cylinder: F2 = 6N, shaft diameter: d = 20mm, friction coefficient between workpiece and conveyor: μ1 = 0.8, friction coefficient of linear guide: μ2 = 0.1, minimum distance between shaft and cylinder: L = 70mm
    • If we put P [N] as the force to center the workpiece,
      from {(F1 x μ1) + (F2 x μ2)} x (d/2) = L x P
      P = {(F1 x μ1) + (F2 x μ2)} x (d/2)/L, hence, P = (10 x 0.8 + 6 x 0.1) x (20/2)/70 = 1.23N
    • Cylinder thrust = load factor x operating pressure x bore diameter sectional area
      = 0.5 x 0.4 MPa x π/4 x 102mm²
      = 15.7N > 1.23N = P
      -> There is no problem.

Other Design Consideration

  • The rod end bearing allows for rotational adjustments of the workpiece.
