MISUMI has developed a set of tools to extract button dies. They can now be replaced directly on the die plate from the front, without needing to remove inserts or reverse the die thus eliminating the need to disassemble die components that were previously labor-intensive.
This step-by-step instruction explains how to choose the right size pulling collet, depending on the Button Die diameter.
Recommended Additional Tools and Products
Each individual collet can be used with dowel pin extractors.
Product Features:
- The flange machining of the shaft knurled section allows for safe use when the operator is using both hands, preventing hands from being caught between the shaft knurled section and hammer.
- The hammer is shot blasted, making slipping less likely.
- A flat is cut on the hammer part to prevent it from turning.
- Loctite is used on the holder cap threads to prevent thread loosening.
Button Die Extracting Tools can be also used with a Pneumatic Dowel pin puller.
This pneumatic tool is used for setting and removing threaded dowel pins as well as Button dies.
Step by Step Instructions for Button Die Extracting Tools
Recommendations and Precautions for the tools:
・Please do not use this product other than replacing button dies.
・Use the correct puller which applies to the inner diameter size of the button die.
・This tool cannot be used for the button dies of headed type or tapered relief (angular) type.
1. Measure the inner diameter of the button die.

2. Choose the puller which applies to the inner diameter size.

If inner diameter is 8.36mm, choose the puller range of 8.0~8.9mm
3. Loosen the nut of puller, then insert it to the button die.

Tighten the nut of the puller, then confirm the retention from the step of the internal diameter of the button die.

4. Hand tighten the nut, then tighten 2 to 3 turns again by the wrench.

5. Attach the Joint nut to the puller.

6. Attach the extractor to the hammer. Slide the hammer a few times to make sure the puller is fixed properly.

Slide the hammer and pull out the button die.
This toolset does not require experienced tool makers, saving time and money with minimal training needed. For further visualization of using the Button Dies Extracting tools watch our video here.
