Q&A

Ask MISUMI Product Specialist 〜Coupling Version〜
question Q1. What are the best couplings for servo motors?
answer A. Especially, consider the disc type couplings "Servo Fine" that are best suitable for Single Axis Units and ball screws.
question Q2. There are Single and Double disc types. Which are better?
answer A. The Double Disc type can absorb more misalignments and are recommended.
The Single Disc type, though they are shorter, cannot absorb much misalignments and recommended only for space limited instances.
Take extra care to center the shafts when using the Single Disc types.
question Q3. What is Torsional Rigidity?
answer A. The ratio of the torque applied about the centroidal axis of a bar at one end of the bar to the resulting torsional angle, when the other end is held fixed.
question Q4. I can't find a correct bore diameter...
answer A. Choose a product with RDC and LDC alteration options.
For example, order as MCOC38-12-RDC13.5 for a coupling with 12 and 13,5mm bores.
question Q5. I want to change the keyway width...
answer A. Choose a product with KRH and KLH alteration ooptions.
For example, order as MCSLCWK32-10-14-KLH4 for a coupling with bore diameter 14mm and keyway width 4mm.
question Q6. Which coupling should I use when there is axial loads?
answer A. Try the N Couplings.
The N Coupling is the only coupling type that can bear thrust loads.
If excessive axial misalignments are applied on other couplings, damages will result.

question Q7. Which coupling should I use when there is a large angular misalignment?
answer A. Try the Universal Joints, with allowable misalignment of 30°.
If unable to frequently grease the joints, use a rubber bellow and keep it filled with grease.

question Q8. What is a Backlash?
answer A. Its a rotational play in couplings.
Since backlash will largely affect machine accuracy, make sure to choose a zero backlash couplings such as the Disc Types for machines requiring high accuracy.
question Q9. What are misalignments?
answer A. Misalignment means that shaft centers are not being in a straight line such as Angular/Lateral/Axial misalignments.
These misalignments will apply excessive strain on bearings and couplings. Make sure to carefully align the shafts regardless of the coupling types.
