MISUMI received its Green Recertification from the Illinois Green Business Association (IGBA) for our Illinois facilities, including the Elk Grove Village warehouse and MISUMI’s Schaumburg headquarters.
The Illinois Green Business Certification program is a verifiable framework that helps businesses determine the best green practice opportunities to save money, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
MISUMI began pursuing the green certification in 2019 and first received it in 2021. Since then, we have continued to maintain a green status.

What It Means to Our Customers
The sustainable efforts we maintain at our Illinois warehouse and headquarters help keep our operations efficient while reducing costs. Ultimately, when our operations are running efficiently, we’re able to provide a better customer experience.
Additionally, as part of a global manufacturing and distribution business, we strive to provide quality and cost-effective products along with time-saving solutions, and our dedication to sustainability helps support those goals.
To qualify for recertification, we continue to:
- Reduce operational costs through practical green practices.
- Maintain operational processes that reduce costs and waste.
- Engage employees in green practices.
- Commit to being a sustainable leader in our industry and our community.
MISUMI’s Sustainable Processes
To highlight some of the ways in which we maintain green status, some of our operational processes include:
- An assessment from our energy provider to discover what equipment we can improve for more efficient energy usage.
- Record our energy bills to identify any potential spikes in usage.
- Reuse packing material and paper products in both of our facilities, in which we reuse incoming packing material for our outgoing shipments to reduce waste that we might otherwise produce.
- Conduct a green purchasing assessment that identifies critical areas for improvement.
- Reuse, recycle, or donate any items that can be reused, such as office supplies, decorations, and pallets.
- Implemented five paper-reducing practices, which decreased or eliminated the use of paper for employee performance reviews, purchasing, and other tasks.
- Post our practices for employees to see and encourage accountability in our green practices.
- Encourage water conservation in both facilities, requesting that employees report any leaks so they can be addressed immediately.
- Designate time for staff meetings or other employee gatherings to cover new and existing environmental efforts.
