Newton-meters (Nm) and kilogram-meters (kg·m) are both units used to measure torque. They represent the same type of quantity—the rotational effect of a force applied at a distance—but are expressed in different systems of measurement. Knowing how to convert between Nm and kg·m makes it easier to work with torque values across various engineering and physics applications. To give a very quick reference, 1 Nm = 0.102 kg-m, and 1 kg-m = 9.807 Nm.

Newton-Meters to Kilogram-Meters Conversion Formula
The conversion between newton-meters (Nm) and kilogram-meters (kg·m) uses the relationship between force, mass, and gravity:
1 Nm = 1 ÷ 9.80665 kg·m
Or, more generally:
kg·m = Nm ÷ 9.80665
Example Calculation
Example: Convert 50 Nm to kilogram-meters.
kg·m = 50 ÷ 9.80665 = 5.10 kg·m
So, 50 Nm of torque is equal to 5.10 kg·m.
