Allowable Axial Load
Allowable Axial Load is a max. load that can be applied with a built-in safety margin before the screw shaft may buckle.
The max. load applied axially on the screw shaft must be less than this Allowable Axial Load.
This load can be calculated with the following formula.
Additionally, Allowable Axial Loads by shaft diameters can be checked using Table 1.

Allowable Axial Load Calculation Example
Application Condition
- ・Screw Diameter Ø15, Lead 20
- ・Support Method Fixed - Supported
- ・Load Applicable Span Distance l1 820mm
- ・Ball Screw Root Diameter d 12.5
Calculation Details
m=10 since the support method is Fixed – Supported, and the Allowable Axial Load (P) will be,

Applicable Shaft Diameter Calculation Example
Application Condition
- ・Load Applicable Span Distance 500mm
- ・Mounting Method Fixed - Supported
- ・Max. Axial Load 10000N
Calculation Details
- (1) From Table 1., find an intersection of a vertical line from Load Applicable Span Distance 500mm and a horizontal line from Fixed – Supported 10000N.
- (2) Choose shaft diameter at the intersection which is 15mm or larger.
