Questions about conveyors
- Q01. Why are there abnormal noises and/or vibrations when the conveyor is running?
- 1. Drive belt may be excessively loose or tight.
2. The belt may be worn. Please replace the belt if the backside is worn.
3. The pulley or idler may be damaged, or some foreign substance may be present.
- Q02. Why won't the conveyor move?
- 1. Please check that power supply (outlet, or control panel) is ON.
2. Possible overload. Please confirm that you have not exceeded the carrying capacity.
- Q03. Can the conveyor belt direction be reversed?
- Belt direction reversal is not recommended because the conveyors are not designed to operate in reverse mode.
- Q04. Is it possible to purchase only the conveyor components (such as an aluminum frame)?
- Components such as aluminum frames and belts can be ordered from the Conveyor Components pages of this site.
- Q05. I would like to perform some conveyor maintenance work. Can I purchase components such as Flat Belts and Timing Belts?
- They can be ordered on the Spare Parts search pages. Please utilize for your convenience.
- Q06. The transport capacity has become insufficient after changing to different workpieces conveyed. Can this be solved?
- Motor or gearhead replacement may work.
Motor replacement may require modifying the motor mounting plate, as different motors may not have the same mounting dimensions.
We recommend replacing the gearhead.
However, please note that the belt speed will be reduced by replacing the gearhead to increase the load carrying capacity.
- Q07. Is it possible to intermittently operate by power ON/OFF?
- The motors equipped are for continuous operation. Continued short interval ON/OFF operation is not recommended.
However, it is OK to operate intermittently, as long as the intervals between operation are at least 60 sec.
- Q08. Can you explain how to read the Conveying Capacity graph?
- First, determine the weight of the load to be conveyed. Then find the point where the conveyed weight and the belt speed lines cross, and verify that the motor power/capacity is sufficient.
- Q09. Is it possible to purchase conveyors without belts? What would be the applicable part number to order?
- Please apply a "J" for the belt type specification section. However, this is not applicable to Stainless Steel Belt conveyors, Timing Belt conveyors, and Plastic Chain conveyors. Please check each product page for more details.
- Q10. Are pulleys and gearheads included with Beltless/Driveless Conveyors?
- They are included.
- Q11. Is it possible to use nuts and brackets for MISUMI Aluminum Extrusions HFS on conveyors?
- Some parts can be used. Please see the product pages for detailed dimensions.
- Q12. Is it possible to order the same MISUMI-USA conveyors and components overseas?
- With just a few excepetions, the majority of products are available in most countries. Please contact us for details
- Q13. How oil resistant are the conveyors including the motors?
- The motors are not liquid proof. They cannot be used where water, oil, alchohol, etc. may come in direct contact.
- Q14. Can drive sections of Center Drive Conveyors be moved?
- The position of the drive unit can be changed on the Center Drive Conveyors within the pulley holders.
Customers can move them, but they can also be ordered with the specified position pre-configured by specifying "MP" for the alteration.
- Q15. What is the "Counterbore hole for nut insertion" shown on conveyor drawings?
- These are used to insert nuts for mounting guides. M6 size slot is for M6 nut or smaller and M3 size slot is for M3 nut or samller.
- Q16. Speed controllers are not shown on the CAD drawings of the conveyors, are they included with the conveyor?
- Speed controllers are included with conveyors. Speed controllers are not shown on the drawings since the position is not fixed relative to the conveyor.
- Q17. Can motor mounting directions of CVSTC and CVSTR Narrow Type conveyors be changed?
- No, the motor mounting direction cannot be changed.
- Q18. How often do the conveyors need maintenance?
- Maintenance frequency depends on your environment and usage conditions. As a general guideline, belts will need to be replaced when cracks and scrapes are evident.
- Q19. Is there a conveyor that is clean room compatible?
- There is no conveyor with certified cleanroom class.
- Q20. SV series conveyors come with pre-inserted nuts; how many are included with each SV conveyor?
- The number of inserted nuts vary depending on the distance between pulleys (conveyor length, L).
· L300 ~ 500 = 4 nuts
· L505 ~ 1000 = 8 nuts
· L1005 ~ 2000 = 12 nuts
· L2005 ~ 3000 = 16 nuts
- Q21. Are manuals included with the conveyors?
- Instruction manual, warning seal, motor manuals (Panasonic, Oriental only) are included.
- Q22. Is it possible to change the connecting rods of Timing Belt conveyors (2-Track conveyors)?
- Yes, it is possible.
- Q23. Are the conveyors China CCC standards compliant?
- Conveyors are not CCC standards compliant.
- Q24. Are the left and right belts of the 2-Track Conveyors synchronized in both speed and position?
- Yes, they are synchornized with each other since they are driven by a common shaft.
- Q25. Are there limitations on motor mounting sizes for conveyors ordered without motor/gearhead? What are the motor mounting requirement conditions?
- If output is the same, the motor mounting pitch does not change and can be mounted. However, motor dimensions other than the mounting pitch may vary depending on manufacturers. Please check for the differences between the motors used by MISUMI and others.
In particular, gearhead output shaft lengths may vary. Use spacers for mounting in such cases.
- Q26. Are the conveyors UL certified?
- The conveyors as a whole are not UL certified, however components may be individually UL compliant.
Panasonic (overseas models) motors and Oriental Motor motors (all units used on MISUMI conveyors) are UL compliant (motors only). Taiwan-made motors are not UL compliant.
- Q27. When Beltless/Driveless Conveyors are ordered, are motor covers included?
- Yes, they are included.
- Q28. Nut insertion counterbored holes are not provided on short conveyor units. How can I insert nuts to use on these units?
- Please use the nuts pre-inserted at the time of shipment. Additional nuts can be inserted by removing the pulley holder.
- Q29. Counterbored holes for nut insertion are not provided on SV Series. Can nuts be inserted?
- Please use the nuts pre-inserted at the time of shipment. Also, counterbore alteration can be ordered by specifying FYA/FYB.
- Q30. Does MISUMI offer Troughed Belt Conveyors? If not, are there equivalent replacements?
- No, troughed belt conveyors are not available. through MISUMI.
- Q31. Are drawings of the conveyors without motor/gearhead available?
- Assembly procedure manuals are included at the time of shipment.
- Q32. What are the weights of conveyors?
- Please see "Unit Weights" pages of this site.
- Q33. Is it possible to obtain a CE declaration?
- Yes. Please contact technical support if needed.
- Q34. Is right/left reversed version of Narrow Type conveyors available?
- It is not available.
- Q35. What does "CE compliant" mean?
- The CE mark is a mark given to those products meeting the criteria of all EU Member States. MISUMI conveyors are compliant.
- Q36. Some downloaded CAD drawing files have "~ _hr" and "~ _wr". What are they?
- Downloaded CAD data are for drawings with Alterations (Knife Edge Roller).
- Q37. What are the conveyor drive pulley types?

The conveyor pulley types can be found on Design You Own Conveyor Kit Page and can be searched by conveyor part number on Search Spare Parts Page.
- Q38. How do I change the conveyor speed when the workpiece comes to a certain location?
- One common method is to use a sensor to detect the workpiece position and a speed controller or inverter to change the speed.
- Q39. What is the heat resistant temperature of conveyors?
- 40 degrees C (motor operating temperature upper limit). Please refrain from using at higher temperatures.
- Q40. Are there any protusions on the bottom of motor covers on End Drive conveyors?
- Button bolt heads protrude from the bottom of motor covers on the models shown below.
CVSA, CVSB, CVSTA, CVSTB: 1.65mm, CVSPA: 2.2mm
End Drive conveyors do not have any protrusions on the bottom side of motor covers.
- Q41. Is there a polarity on capacitors? If so, are they color-coded?
- Since AC current applies to the capacitors, they have no polarity. Therefore, they are not color marked.
- Q42. We intend on exporting to China, is it possible to provide the certified high-efficiency standards for the conveyor motors?
- Motors used on MISUMI conveyors are below 90W and the high-efficiency standards are not applicable.
- Q43. We had previously experienced belts curling up on the sides with crowned types pulleys. Will this happen with MISUMI products?
- Due to the nature of belt construction, excessive tension applied to belts tend to make the sides of the belts curl up, regardless of the manufacturer.
- Q44. What does it mean by "Rotation direction is same as the motor for 25:1 or less reduction ratio, opposite direction from the motor shaft for reduction ratio 30 or more" stated on the catalog?
- Depending on the reduction ratio, gearhead output shaft rotation direction may be opposite of the motor shaft rotation direction. This shouldn't cause any issues, however if there are problems due to reversed direction operation, re-wire the motor, switching CW and CCW directions, in order to change the belt direction.
Questions about motors
- Q01. Is it possible to vary the speed of the constant speed motor?
- Constant speed motor speed cannot be changed. However, it is possible to change the conveying speed by replacing the gear head,
which Misumi also offers. Please check the conveyor model number in use and check with "Motor-Gearhead Model List".
- Q02. What is the Life of a motor?
- Motor standard life is 10,000 hours with a constant load of 8 hours of operation per day.
* This may vary greatly depending on your usage environment, please consider this as a reference only.
- Q03. I've lost the capacitor supplied with the constant speed motor. Can I purchase one as a separate item?
- It is possible to purchase as a special order.
- Q04. Do motors on MISUMI conveyors have common or standardized mounting dimensions?
- Mounting pitch diameters match most motor manufacturers, however, motor shaft lengths may vary depending on manufacturers. Please check the product page for details.
- Q05. Is it possible to buy a conveyor without a motor?
- It is possible. Please purchase a Beltless/Driveless Conveyor. These units are supplied with the separate components and require assembly.
- Q06. Do I need to consider selecting motor output specification when ordering Beltless/Driveless Conveyors?
- Yes, since some parts may vary in sizes depending on motor outputs.
- Q07. For variable speed motors, are the motors and speed controllers provided as sets?
- Yes.
- Q08. Can speed be decreased and increased using a speed controller?
- The gearhead speeds shown on the catalog are the max. speeds. The speeds can only be decreased from the max. values shown.
- Q09. Can the speeds controlled from PLCs?
- Yes. Please select the constant speed motor with inverter option.
- Q10. Do motors ever drip oil?
- No. However, this does not apply if the motors are oil lubricated by customers.
- Q11. Can MISUMI provide reversible motors with conveyors?
Is it possible to special order from Misumi? Can I mount third-party reversible motors on MISUMI conveyors?
- MISUMI does not provide special ordered conveyors with reversible motors. Our conveyors are not designed for reverse direction operation, and if used in that manner, the belt may drift off track. In addition, there is a possibility that the size of the motor is different, resulting in interference.
- Q12. Do you support waterproof standards on motors (IP standards).
- Motors used on MISUMI conveyors are not IP rated.
- Q13. Where are speed controllers located? Are brackets provided?
- MISUMI conveyors and speed controllers are provided separately to allow the customer to mount the speed controller in their system. Customers requiring brackets are to provide them separately.
- Q14. Are Misumi motors explosion proof?
- No, they are not explosion proof.
- Q15. What would be the motor speed when the speed control knob is turned all the way to the minimum setting?
- Although it may vary up to conveyor length, width, and workpice conditions, it would be approx. 1/15 of the speed determined by the gearhead reduction ratio.
- Q16. Are thermal protectors provided on motors?
- They're provided with motors 60W or more, but not with 40W motors or smaller.
- Q17. Can MISUMI provide conveyors with reversible motors?
- Since reversible motors are not in the design specifications, they are not available, even as a special order.
- Q18. Can stepping motors be used?
- Since stepping motors are not in the design specifications, they are not available, even as a special order.
- Q19. Where are motor wiring diagrams listed?
- Please refer to the "Technical Information" pages of the conveyor selection site.

- Q20. How long are the variable speed motor extension cables?
- It is 1 meter.
- Q21. What is the difference between a variable speed motor and constant speed motor?
- Constant speed motor runs at a constant speed, variable speed motor can be adjusted for lower speeds.
- Q22. What are the Max./Min. speeds of variable speed motors?
- Maximum speeds will be the maximum belt speed values shown on the catalog, the minimum speeds would be approx. 1/15 of the Max. speeds.
- Q23. Can I use inverters on a single phase power input motor?
- MISUMI does not offer single-phase power compatible inverters.
- Q24. What are the differences between the motor types?
- Constant speed motors (IM) operate at constant speeds where the speed is determined by the gearhead reduction ratio.
Variable speed motor (SCM) can be adjusted for speed with a speed control potentiometer. In that case, the speeds shown on the gearhead reduction ratio table are the maximum speeds.
Inverter (INV) will be required to adjust speeds by frequency control. It allows for intermittent operation and operation in either CW or CCW directions depending on control methods used. However, MISUMI conveyors are intended for simple conveyance applications, and such operations as shown above are not necessarily guaranteed.

- Q26. How can I obtain motor extension cables?
- For Panasonic Motors: Although they are not listed on the catalog, they are available as standard items. Please order with type "PACM-C-(2, 3, 5)". * Select the cable lengths (m) in ( ).
For Oriental Motor, they are available as special orders.
Not available for Taiwan made motors.

Questions about belts
- Q01. Why is the belt drifting off-track when the conveyor is in use?
- Check for:
1. Curved or bent aluminum frame
2. Belt stretch/looseness
3. Foreign matter deposits on the pulley/idler
* There may be some lateral movement when the conveyor is first used, but it should go away as the belt adapts to the system after a certain period of operation.
- Q02. Why is the belt sliding to one side?
- 1. It may be caused by the conveyor aluminum frame bending or curving.
2. If transported material is unbalanced to one side, the belt may creep to that side.
- Q03. How do you tension the conveyor belt?
- Adjust tension by tightening the tension adjustment screw.
When adjusting, be sure to equally tighten the left and right tensioning screws.
See Figure 2 for the tensioning screw position differences between End Drive and Center Drive conveyors.
* Please be sure the conveyor is not in operation, and power is turned OFF before performing the belt replacement work.
- Q04. The belt no longer runs smoothly.
- 1. Check the drive section (pulley, idler) for any dust and dirt deposits.
2. Belt may be worn. Please replace the belt.
- Q05. How do you replace the conveyor belt?
- Please see "Belt Replacements" listed in the catalog. Belt replacement videos are also provided.
- Q06. What is the difference between conveyors with guided belt and conveyors without?
- Belt lateral movement prevention methods are different.
The conveyors without guided belt have crowned pulleys and idlers to prevent meandering.
On the other hand, meandering prevention belt conveyor has a belt with protrusions on the underside to engage with slots cut in the center of the pulley and idler to prevent belt from drifting.
- Q07. Are certificates for food grade belts available?
- Yes, they can be provided.
- Q08. I do not see any guided belts for food conveying application in the MISUMI lineup. Are the general purpose HBLTDSW belts compatible with food HACCP?
- Yes, they are compliant.
- Q09. Can the stainless steel belts break during usage?
- They may break if damaged. They tend to tear if the sides (ends) are damaged. Undamaged belts are stable.
- Q10. Are stainless steel belts noisy in operation?
- Stainless steel belts do not generate noise, although the motor may be a source of noise.
- Q11. Are there any damage resistant belts for applications such as conveying press formed parts?
- Currently no heavy duty belt is offered.
- Q12. Are the belts used on Narrow Type conveyors oil resistant?
- The belts used on the Narrow Type have oil resistant characteristics.
- Q13. What are the fraying characteristics of the belt ends?
- Flat belts for conveyors are not fray-proof.
- Q14. Can the oil resistant belts be used to convey parts with water soluble cutting oils?
- It's OK if small amounts come in contact with the belt surfaces.
- Q15. How are the belts joined?
- They all have finger joints.
- Q16. Is there a possibility to cut one's fingers or hands on the sides of the stainless steel belts?
- Although they are made with minimum burrs, pressing hard against the sides may cause cuts. Please be especially careful while conveyors are in operation.
- Q17. What is the joint section tolerance of Stanless Steel belts?
- Seams are not overlapped. The joint seam area has a thicknesss tolerace of +/-10%, the remaining surface is about 1%.
- Q18. Is it possible to order conveyors with belts other than standard MISUMI offerings?
- We currently do not provide belt manufacture substitution orders. Please install your own belts on conveyors purchased without belts. In doing so, please be sure to check that the belt's allowed minimum pulley dia. value is smaller than the conveyor's pulley diamater.
- Q19. How many times are the belts welded?
- One time.
- Q20. Which belt is the most slippery type?
- When specifying a conveyor, please select either "G" or "S" for the low friction sliding belt option.
- Q21. Can I choose the oil resistant belt in colors other than dark blue?
- All oil resistant belts are in dark blue only.
- Q22. Can I calculate the belt life?
- Determining belt life may differ greatly between applications due to many variables such as speed, load weight, external forces, etc.
- Q23. Can the belts be thicker than the standard offerings on Stainless Steel Belt Conveyors?
- No. Belts thicker than 0.1 mm cannot be used since the pulley diameter depends on the belt thickness.
Questions about legs and stands
- Q01. Is it possible to buy conveyor stands only?
- Yes, conveyor stands are available as separate items.
The models are: CSTSA, CSTSC, CSTWA, and CSTWC.
- Q02. Can conveyor stand alterations be specified as individual pieces, not as a full stand set?
- Yes, it is possible. Please specify as "PN" for the Stand Pitch when specifying only one piece.
- Q03. Can I purchase just the stand offered as a conveyor alteration?
- Stands are sold as optional items. Please search for CSTS (I-type) and CSTW (H-type). Those do not come with the reinforcement extrusions between the legs. Please purchase HFS6-3060 separately.
- Q04. Are the conveyor legs MISUMI alum. extrusions?
- They are HFS6-3060 extrusions as indicated in the catalog.
- Q05. Is it possible to attach legs on the motor cover of the conveyor?
- No. The extrusion frame for attaching the legs is underneath the motor cover.
